Alliance for a Healthier Generation
Synthesizing impact towards childhood health and empowerment
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a catalyst for children’s health. Founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation, their goal is to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and to empower kids to develop lifelong, healthy habits. For more than a decade, Healthier Generation has worked with schools, youth-serving organizations, businesses, and communities to empower kids to develop lifelong healthy habits by ensuring the environments that surround them provide and promote good health. Driven by a belief that all youth deserve a chance to live healthier lives, their work has impacted up to 28 million kids across the country.

In 2018, verynice partnered with Healthier Generation to further operationalize their strategic plan, and ideate on creative ways to generate more revenue. To get up to speed with Healthier Generation’s current context, verynice interviewed 7 internal stakeholders. This group represented a cross section of the Senior Leadership Team and Board. Interview questions were geared toward understanding how far the organization had come in enacting the strategic plan, the largest challenges at hand, and what forces were driving Healthier Generation into the future.
Armed with useful context about the present day state of things, we designed a series of activities for a 4-hour workshop. To begin, we focused on cataloging all of the current initiatives and aligning them with the strategy focus areas. Then, we captured how much time was allocated to each initiative and ranked their respective impact and revenue to get a better sense for which initiatives were being prioritized, compared to which should be prioritized.
To help strengthen Healthier Generation’s business model, we used Models of Impact to imagine new ways to create impact and generate revenue. As a group, we discussed exciting new ideas and their respective opportunities and risks. The session wrapped up with a short primer on capacity resource allocation and next steps.
Following the workshop, verynice delivered a toolkit of frameworks and activities for teams at Healthier Generation to continue to build on this work. It is organized using stages of verynice’s methods, and informed by Healthier Generation's unique context.
"The verynice team brought a critical new lens to our planning process! They rapidly and accurately gathered diverse perspectives, asked keen questions, and guided an engaging in-person strategy session. Their customized toolkit eloquently synthesized our work together and provided actionable resources we used immediately across our organization."
